Heb 12:2 - Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We often quote this Scripture, but do we really understand what it means to call Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith?

In the natural, every author who writes a good script includes the following elements:
  • The main characters and supporting characters
  • The setting(s) where the story unfolds
  • Conflicts that arise
  • How each conflict is resolved
  • Lessons learned by the characters and how these lessons help to mold each of their lives
  • An author is one who originates, composes, or creates a thing
As the Author of our faith, Jesus says, “Let there be….”, and orchestrates situations in our lives that are opportunities for our faith to grow.

As Author Jesus also takes the lead, setting the example with His own life of what a life of faith should be.

Follow in Jesus' Footsteps
In the natural a finisher completes a job, making sure that every detail of the original plan is revealed in the finished product

As the Finisher of our faith, Jesus is our example of the highest level of faith.
He shows us how faith is raised to its perfection.

In your personal walk of faith, Jesus is there at the beginning as your Author, and He is there at the end as your Finisher.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil,
to give you an expected end.
Jer. 29:11

  1. Jesus is the author of my life. I can't wait to see how He continues to write my story. Thank you for showing me this.

  2. I have found your statement that Jesus "orchestrates situations in our lives that are opportunities for our faith to grow" to be so true! Through good times and challenging times, He is with us, guiding us through. And, when we look to Him, our faith will grow! I am so thankful that He is the Author and Finisher of my faith!

    Blessings to you, Audrey!

  3. He's writing my life and I'm looking forward how He will bring every detail of His original plan into being as my "Finisher." I love growing my faith and looking forward to the day He takes me Home!

  4. What a great comfort to know that Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. Thank you for pointing this out in such an understandable way.

  5. I wait for the Lord to make His next move with me. I often don't like what is going on in my life but I trust Him and am learning to lean on His ways. Thank you for this beautiful post today.

  6. What a great way to remind us that He is the beginning and the end of all things, that includes our lives in Him. Thanks so much for the great post. Bobbi

  7. I'm so thankful he is the author of my life and the finisher; he knows how it is going to end and he knew the beginning even before the beginning of time. I just have to remember to continue to trust that he truly does know what is best for me and wait for his perfect timing to unfold his plans and will for my life.

thanks for visiting my blog (Fear of the Lord) and your kind comment.

I hope you have a nice rest of the weekend!

  8. Good points to ponder. I especially like the fact that He is the "finisher" and will complete the work He has begun in us (Phil.1:6).
