SNATCHED FROM DEATH - MY TESTIMONY

I sat on the edge of the bed with a handful of Valium in one hand and a razor blade nearby. A glass of water to wash down the pills sat on the dresser waiting to do its duty. Night had fallen and my heart was as dark as the sky outside. There was nothing left to live for I thought.

Earlier that evening my estranged husband had brought our 2 year old son back home after spending the afternoon with him. Their parting usually was a happy one, but this time little D cried uncontrollably as he watched his dad’s car drive away. Nothing would console him.

“Wanna go with Daddy and my other Mommy!” he cried. Those words hit like daggers. D was the one ray of sunshine left in my life since the sudden separation had occurred several months before. Now he, too, wanted out.

Something snapped in my mind. I heard myself assuring him that from tomorrow he would indeed be with his dad. As I prepared him for bed D was giggling and happy once again. I rocked him to sleep and when his little body was completely relaxed I kissed him, and gently placed him in his crib. He was a child who slept through the night…and slept very soundly at that, so there was no way he would awaken before morning.

Methodically, mechanically and completely drained from months of trying to hold things together, I began to prepare…packed D’s bag with the things he would need for daycare…put his breakfast dishes on the table…laid his clothes out for the morning…took the lock off the front door so that there would be easy access to get in….poured the glass of water….went to my bedroom…closed the door…found the razor blade…uncapped the bottle of pills…sat on my bed.

Thoughts swirled in my mind – a jumble of memories. All efforts to make life "normal" had added up to one word – failure.

I heard my own voice saying, “God, if you want me to live You’re going to have to stop me.” I waited a brief moment. Nothing. With that I poured out a handful of pills and raised my hand to my mouth. The razor blade lay nearby to be used right afterward. Then suddenly the stillness was shattered…

“MOMMY!!!”

It jolted me! I dropped the pills, raced to D’s bedroom and flipped the light switch. There was my two year old…the same one who never awakened, even during a recent earthquake. There he was, wide awake, standing up in his crib with that disarming grin, hands outstretched for me to pick him up. As I grabbed D and held him ever so close a flood of unexpressed emotion flowed from me.

God had heard my heart, and He had answered! He did care! He did want me to live! And He had used my little treasure to let me know that!

That night marked a turnaround in my life. I came to know God, the Father, who valued me so much when I couldn't see value in myself. I was soon introduced to His Son, Jesus and discovered that He, too, loved me so much that He willingly gave His own body to be battered, bruised and then crucified….all so that I could have true life - eternal life with Him!

Several decades later I am a mother and grandmother. But most importantly I am Jesus’ messenger, telling those who are lost and hurting and devoid of answers that there is One who has the answer to any and every problem. He even used me to lead my ex-husband to Him!

I can tell you that He is the only Answer, because before that fateful night I had tried so many other “solutions” – so many religions...attempting to fill the void inside me. But the emptiness always lingered ….until Jesus.

He knows the way out of your prison. He can heal your deepest pain. He will calm your greatest fears. He is with you when you think you’re all alone. He gives you hope. His plans for you are for peace. He knows all about your weaknesses, yet loves you with total abandon! He says...

"“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28

Whatever you need Jesus to be, He will be…
  • If you need someone to confide in – He is the Friend who sticks closer than a brother
  • If you need healing – He is the Great Physician
  • If you need guidance – He is the Way, the Truth and the Life
  • If you are in turmoil – He is the Prince of Peace
  • If your world is dark and dismal – He is the Light of the world
  • If you’re plagued by guilt and shame – He is ready to forgive you and receive you as His own.

Will you ask Jesus to take control of your life, as He did mine? Will you ask Him to help you pick up the pieces? I can assure you that He is right there with you as you read this testimony. Just as He used D’s voice to snatch me from death, He is using this article to bring you back from despair...back to Him. The Lord loves you desperately, and wants you to know His love………a love like you have never experienced before. He created you just so that you could have intimate fellowship with Him!

He can take your mess and turn you into His messenger….just like He did with me!

All you have to do is call His Name….
JESUS.

Mourning into Dancing. Ps. 30:11

All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true.
Those who don’t believe this are actually calling God a liar
because they don’t believe what God has testified about his Son.
And this is what God has testified:
He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.

1 John 5:10-12

THE SIN OF UNBELIEF

Written by Allison Sylvester-Conliffe

One may not consider that unbelief of the Word of God is a sin against God.  If you search the Scriptures you would find the Lord saying to us the following expressions...
  • ”If you believe, then you shall see the Glory of the Lord”.  John 11:40
  • He would ask – "Do you believe that I can do this?"  Matthew 9:28
  • The Lord would heal saying, “Your faith (belief) has made you whole.”
There was a time that Jesus could not do any miracles because of the people’s unbelief.  Matthew 15:58.  Jesus also said that if you believe in Him you will not perish. John 11:26
Abraham had to believe God at His Word, leave his family and all that was familiar, and go to a place that God would reveal to him.  Galatians 3:6 says that Abraham believed God and it was accounted unto him for righteousness.  Elijah had to believe God for an abundance of rain when he was seeing a cloudless sky.  Noah had to believe God as He instructed him how to build an ark in preparation for something that was never experienced before … a flood.  It would then be fair to say that God puts great importance on one’s belief in Him.

Let us look at the account of Lazarus in John 11.  Lazarus’ sisters sent messengers to Jesus with news that his friend Lazarus was gravely ill, meaning that He should come to him.  The Word from God to the messengers was – “This sickness is not unto death but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby!”  That was the Word that was spoken in that very situation, coming directly from the Mouth of God.  I consider that a done deal right there.

However, do you think that the hearers believed on that Word?  Did the hearers rest in that Word?  Did the hearers remember that God had spoken through Isaiah the prophet saying – “So shall my Word be that goeth forth out of My mouth, it shall not return unto Me void but it shall accomplish that which I please and it shall prosper in the thing where unto I sent it.”  Isaiah 55:11  The hearers’ response did not suggest that they had believed at all.

Even as Jesus spoke to His disciples concerning Lazarus, they did not fully grasp what He was saying to them.  They saw Jesus do miracles of healing, so they only recognized Him as the Healer and not as the Restorer of things that are dead.  In other words, in their hearts they limited God and His ability to do more than heal.  Jesus was revealing Himself to them as the Resurrection and the Life, but since they did not believe fully, they could not perceive what the Lord was revealing to them.

Jesus spoke another Word of Life to Martha as well as in the ears of those who were in their company.  He said, “Your brother shall rise again!”  However, they believed that Jesus meant that Lazarus would remain dead in the natural scheme of things, but would rise again on the last Day.

Though this thought is true, and though they heard the Word of Life from the Lord, they still saw a dead Lazarus in the grave and so everybody present kept up the lamenting and wailing.  This caused Jesus to be so grieved in His Spirit that He groaned and was so troubled that He wept.  He wept, not because of Lazarus’ apparent death but because of the fact that nobody believed Him at His Word.

We all have situations that are negative in our lives.  This has been so ordained for the people who follow Jesus Christ so that we can bear fruit.  Jesus has already warned us in His Word that tribulation must come to us.  This is the way of the Cross and we must take up the cross assigned to us and follow after Jesus.

When these negative situations confront us we must revive and apply the Word of God that is in us which pertains to our individual situations.  We must hold that Word up to God and wait patiently for Him to answer.  We cannot do that in unbelief.  Faith in God...or rather belief in God...is what pleases Him.  We can then surmise that unbelief displeases God.  Therefore it is sin to operate in unbelief.

The trial of your faith (belief) works patience – so says the Book of James.  James went on to say that we ought to “let patience have its perfect work, that we may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing” – but we first have to believe what the Word of God says.

God richly bless you.

PT. 2 - BEWARE OF THE SEDUCERS

Written by Allison Sylvester-Conliffe

These days, the world is attempting to side line Jesus!  They will allow you to pray in any other name but in the Name of Jesus!

In some places believers are not allowed to walk with, talk about or teach from the Bible. However the world would allow witches and warlocks to practice and teach witchcraft openly!  They prefer to embrace demons while denying Jesus.... and we wonder why the most gruesome crimes are being committed in this day – more gruesome than was ever recorded in years gone by.  Headless bodies are being found.....gun massacres occur frequently in schools....children senselessly stabbing to death other school mates.

Unless we worship God through Jesus Christ (the only Way to the Father), we would not be worshipping the God who created the universe and all that there is in it.  If you make a god with your hands, you are bigger than that god because you have created and formed it.

We must never create a fabricated image of God in our minds according to what or who we perceive God to be!  He has revealed Himself to us through His Son Jesus and it is recorded in the Holy Bible for us to know!

God is our Creator and therefore He is much, much bigger than we are.  He is also Spirit therefore we have to worship Him in Spirit AND in TRUTH then He would allow His Holy Spirit to commune with us in order to remind us of the written Word and also to reveal even more of Himself to us.  The Word of God says that if you seek God with all of your heart you will find Him.  He wants all of us to know Him and to have relationship with Him.

If Jesus is the Truth, then we have to surmise that there are some lies being spewed posing as truth.  If Jesus says that He is the Way – then we have to surmise that there would be some other paths available that we could saunter into.

We are in a day of unmatched deception, and as the Word of God explains –
Except the days are shortened there should no flesh be saved –
but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
Matthew 24:22

I am alive in a day where I see a former powerful man of God now joining himself to Islam, calling this new movement “chrislam” and he is now enticing others to embrace this doctrine.  Because of who this minister is, I think folk would not be discerning but will follow him in this teaching.

I am also seeing in this day another powerful man of God, full of the Word of God inside of him, a man who has brought many souls to Christ, who is now embracing a woman who is clearly a follower of the New Age doctrine – a woman who has publicly denounced Jesus as being the only way to the Father.  This Minister of the Gospel has invited this woman to speak on his platform to a whole lot of Christian believers.  What do you think that she Is going to say to those believers in Jesus?

Just as satan beguiled Eve, his tricks have not changed, they are the same and his motive is the same – to bring doubt and to de-rail believers into believing a lie.

This article’s intention is to encourage believers to stay with the Gospel that Jesus Christ instituted.  To sway and to believe another gospel is to rub shoulders with the antichrist.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4.

Saints and beloved of God – I adjure you to beware of the seducers!
God bless you!

PT. 1 - BEWARE OF THE SEDUCERS

Written by Allison Sylvester-Conliffe

...there will be false teachers among you.
They will cleverly teach destructive heresies
and even deny the Master who bought them.
In this way, they will bring
sudden destruction on themselves.
Many will follow their evil teaching
and shameful immorality.
And because of these teachers,
the way of truth will be slandered.
2 Peter 2:1-2

There are seducing spirits now prevalent in the world, which are more subtle than they have ever been before. New doctrines have arisen “In the Name of Jesus” that are being cleverly projected as the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  However as of a truth, these “new” gospels have been concocted by satan himself.

As believers in Jesus Christ living in this age of apostasy, we must observe and do what is in the Word of God as it has been originally preached to us.  We cannot and must not be accommodating to those of other beliefs so as to join with them and call it our gospel as well.

In this day, some believe that Jesus is just a Prophet and that He is not God.  Others believe that there is no Holy Ghost.  Yet others believe that no matter what or who we worship, we are all worshipping the same God.  Some believe that God has made some homosexual and it is therefore their right to choose their partners because it is their “preferred lifestyle”!

These examples are just skimming the top of what persons choose to believe.  May I tell you that these persons are believing a lie and the father of lies is satan himself.  God’s Word clearly states that “No-one comes to the Father except by Me (Jesus)!  Meaning that the ONLY way to Heaven is through the belief and acceptance of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is more than a Prophet –
  • He is the Son of God...and as the Father is so is His Son!
  • Jesus is the Saviour of the World, to anybody who would confess accepting Him as Saviour.
  • Jesus is also our Redeemer (He redeems us from Hell and the grave – He laid Himself down in death and He also picked Himself up again in life)!
  • He is the Living God – the other so-called gods have eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear!!
  • Jesus is our Protector - we do not have to protect Him.
  • He is our Provider – we do not have to provide for Him!
  • He is also our Healer
  • He is the Prince of Peace, therefore He is our peace
  • He is our Joy unspeakable and full of glory!
As a matter of fact everything that is of God is all wrapped up in Him.
  • He is the Fullness of Life and all godliness.
  • Jesus is the Way, THE Truth (not A truth but THE Truth) and He is Life itself.
Most of all He is Love

THE MYSTERY OF INIQUITY - PT. 2

Written by Allison Sylvester-Conliffe

2 Thessalonians 2:7
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work
(King James Version)
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work
(New King James Version)

Another example of when the spirit of iniquity is lurking, is when you read or hear doctrine that is contrary to the doctrine that was preached which resulted in your Salvation. If left unchecked against the Word of God, this spirit would take up residence in your heart and you would begin to believe a lie.

If you believe contrary to the Word of God then you would act contrary to the Word of God.  Iniquity is at work.  When doubt is present, faith is absent.  It is written in the Book of Hebrews that without faith it is impossible to please God!  Do you see the connection?  Do you see the ploy of the enemy at work?

The spirit of iniquity has taken up residence in your own heart when the following sins are manifest in you – Pride, Resentment, Hatred, Bitterness, Envy, Jealousy, Unholy Desires, and the like.

You would notice that all of these manifestations are as a result of bad heart conditions before God.  These sins are hidden in the heart and nobody is able to detect that iniquity is present and is in operation.  Iniquity can hide behind smiles! It is serpentine!

You may have been treated wrongfully, maybe you were betrayed. Most of the time this is done by someone you are close to, and you may feel justified to harbour anger, bitterness or resentment because you were taken by surprise.  This does not justify your reaction of embracing of the sin of iniquity and thus bearing its fruit.

If you are faced with such a situation, the answer is right there in the Word of God.  Romans Chapter 12 and verse 14 instructs us to bless those people and not curse them.  That is an antidote against the spirit of iniquity.

Though these sins are hidden from easy detection by man, they are not hidden from Almighty God, who looks and judges according to the condition of our hearts.  Harbouring these sins would prevent us from making it to Heaven as was written in Galatians 5:17-21.  We must constantly guard our hearts against the fiery darts of the devil see Ephesians 6:16 – “above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”

As believers it is imperative that we remain attached to the True Vine since sin would always separate us from God.  Only then would we be able to draw from the character and nature of Jesus, and be attuned to the Voice of God.  Only then would we be able to recognize the contrary voice of the spirit of iniquity when it comes lurking, and so be able to immediately cut that spirit off. Only then would we be able to love the brethren and manifest the love of God to others.

To remain attached to Jesus, the True Vine, we must digest the Word of God and do what the Word says.  In so doing, we would be guarding our hearts against the unclean thing and so prevent the spirit of iniquity from finding a home in us.

To God be the glory.

THE MYSTERY OF INIQUITY - PT. 1

Written by Allison Sylvester-Conliffe

Iniquity is not something that is tangible. It cannot be seen outwardly with the naked eye, but resides within the heart of man. What is iniquity?  Simply put, it is sin of the heart.

Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 2:7
“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work”

Paul was cautioning the Thessalonians against partnering with iniquity.  He cautioned the believers in verses 1 & 2 of the same chapter that they should not be swayed by listening to another doctrine which was contrary to what they were already taught concerning the coming of the Lord.  Apparently they had been listening to persons who were circulating a false teaching concerning the Lord’s coming.

There is a spirit of iniquity that constantly tempts the believer to step outside of the will of God. This spirit’s job is to plant stuff into our hearts which opposes the nature and character of God and His Word.

This spirit of iniquity is at work to do satan’s bidding in order to cause us to fall from grace.  It enters believers as well as non-believers through the eyes and the ears, and then it takes up residence in the heart.

One of the ways that it comes through the ears is in the form of gossip.  For example, if an agent of satan comes to you with an evil report about someone, that report enters through your ear and if you receive it, it takes up residence in your heart.

The next time you see that person who was evil spoken of, immediately what got into your heart would manifest in the way that you see or relate to that person.  Iniquity is at work! This could then bear the fruit of resentment or bitterness or hatred in you.  These fruits are not fruits that come from God!

The fruit that comes from God that ultimately and undoubtedly challenges bitterness, resentment and hatred is the fruit of love.  Love is of God and God is Love!  The spirit of iniquity cannot penetrate a heart that loves with the God kind of love.

LISTEN TO THE SOUND

Thanks to Allison Sylvester-Conliffe for this article

Some sounds can be pleasant and other sounds can be discordant.

There is a sound that emanates from Heaven … a distinct sound … a sound of worship unto God, night and day!  The Bible says that the elders and the angels make a continuous sound of worship as they cry, "Holy, Holy, Holy!!"  This sound is as many waters.  It is a beautiful and infectious sound … but there is another sound that emanates from Heaven.  It is the Voice of God!

Sometimes it thunders and sometimes it is as a still, small voice.  However, when the Voice of God speaks a sound, that sound is directed to His creation, His children.  Therefore after He sounds that sound, He looks for a response from us.  His sound is sometimes one of rejoicing or it may be a sound of lamentation and woe.  How do we know what sound He is speaking to us at any given hour?  The sound that comes from God is always the sound of His Heart.  We must be tuned in 24/7 to hear and identify what His sound is speaking.

You know that sound speaks don’t you?  Take music for an example.  The sound of music can create an atmosphere of joy or it can speak sounds of lamentation.  Some music can project an awareness of danger and others project fear.  A typical example of this is evident in the sound effects that are created for the movies.

We must be able to identify the sound that we hear from Heaven.  If this is not so, then how would we know when the sound from Heaven is speaking to let us know it is time to intercede?  How would we know when the sound from Heaven is telling us to be militant in warfare?  How would we know when the sound is telling us to be silent?

The sound from Heaven will usually give us instructions and direction.  There is a sound that emanates from God’s Throne that is speaking to us by the minute.  God speaks to us either audibly or through His Spirit to our spirit. However as we read in John 15, we must abide in Him, so that we will be one with Him and thus be attuned to His Voice … His Sound!

As God’s children we are His image and likeness in the earth. Therefore we are to echo the exact sound from heaven as the Father dictates to us, so that His will can be done here on His earth. This requires our intimacy with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

As you quiet your spirit and tune in to the sound from heaven, what do you hear?

Love to All!

BLESSED ARE THE MEEK

Thanks to Allison Sylvester-Conliffe for this article

Jesus said in Matthew 5:5,
"Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth."

This statement means that the humble persons (the persons that walk with God and in obedience to his will) will have divine favour on the job, divine favour with men, divine favour in business dealings etc. while they live on the earth.

While we live on the earth as believers, we are supposed to live in the supernatural, which is different from life as it is in the natural.  To live in the supernatural is to live according to the Word of God.  Very often this goes against what our rational thinking would tell us.  God is supernatural and therefore his Word is also supernatural. We are to read His Word, study it and make it become so much a part of us that we live out what it says.

Matthew 5 - The Beatitudes, Romans 12 - about the Body of Christ and 1 Corinthians 13 - The Love Chapter are just a few key Scriptures to help us to begin walking in the supernatural.

If we live according to the dictates of the Scriptures, then we would indeed bring the kingdom on earth as a likeness of what the Kingdom is in Heaven.

FRUIT OF THE VINE

“I am the vine, you are the branches.
He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit;
for without Me you can do nothing.
By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit;
so you will be My disciples. – John 15:5, 8

When a branch on a grapevine produces fruit the grapes are harvested and used for various purposes. The fruit is proof of how good the branch on the vine is. If the branch is healthy and well connected to the vine it will yield bountiful healthy fruit. If the branch is not receiving enough sustenance from the vine the fruit will be inferior in quality.

Once the harvesting is done the grapes are either used for eating or for making juice, jelly, jam or wine. In each instance it requires that the grapes be crushed in order for the goodness that is inside to be enjoyed. In other words, a grape has to "give itself in sacrifice" so that others can benefit from its goodness.

The life of a Christian is a life of giving of oneself. It is a life of sacrifice. Jesus said that as long as we abide (remain intimately connected) in Him we will bear fruit, and it is by the fruit that we bear the Father is glorified.

In the same way that grapes are crushed, squeezed, chewed, and subjected to intense heat we are tested to see what the quality of our fruit is. It is by our fruit that men will be able to taste and see that the Lord is good!- Psalm 34:8

But the fruit of the Spirit is
love,
 joy,
peace,
 kindness,
goodness,
faithfulness,
gentleness,
self-control.
– Galatians 5:22

How well do you stand up to the sometimes intense testing?
What does your fruit taste like?
Do you yield “sour grapes” or fruit that brings honor to the Father?

LESSONS FROM THE GRAPEVINE

THE CULTIVATED VINE

Jesus said, “I am the True Vine and my Father is the Vinedresser”. – John 15:1

A cultivated grapevine is carefully tended by a gardener who takes pains to make sure that the vine has everything it needs to produce the best fruit. It is usually fenced in to protect it from enemies and the gardener removes all stones and other debris that could inhibit growth. He often builds posts or fences which are used to provide support to the growing vine.

Like the natural grapevine, God the Father puts a hedge of protection around us
to keep us from the clutches of the enemy.
He too, does all He can to ensure that our fruit – love, joy, peace etc. –
is of the highest quality.

When a branch on a cultivated grapevine is producing fruit the gardener will prune it - cutting back branches and leaving it looking almost bare. This seems cruel, but it causes the branch to draw more life-giving sap from the vine. This eventually results in even greater growth, and yields fruit of excellent quality.

Our Father does the same with us.
When we are in union with Jesus, the True Vine, the Father will periodically “prune us”
in areas that have been quite productive.
To the undiscerning this could feel like punishment or unfair treatment.
However, this dry spell is the loving Father’s way of drawing us
even closer to the Vine, Jesus,
so that our fruit-character more greatly reflects Him.

THE WILD VINE

I planted you as
a choice vine of seed
fully tested and true.
How did you degenerate into a wild vine for me? – Jeremiah 2:21

On the other hand a wild vine is not kept by a gardener, but grows at its own pace, sometimes rapidly. Its fruit are small, sour and inferior in quality. The wild vine cannot support itself, so it may wind itself around a tree until it gets to the top. Eventually it covers the top of the tree, and because the tree’s leaves can no longer receive enough sunlight, the tree begins to die.

The fact that an assembly is growing rapidly, is increasingly visible in the media
and seems to be advancing is not necessarily an indication that it is connected to the True Vine.
Jesus warned us saying, “Take heed that you not be deceived.
For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and,
‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them.” – Luke 21:8

Paul warns us about “false apostles, deceitful workers,
transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” – 2 Cor. 11:13-15

DON’T BE DECEIVED

Let us be diligent in testing each spirit to ensure that it is of God. Not every Christian program, book, CD, event or assembly is one that promotes intimacy with Jesus Christ.  Too many, like the wild vine, are on a mission to milk unsuspecting believers of their resources. They focus on their own ministries’ survival and personal ambition instead of the purposes of God. Eventually, because of lack of direct contact with the SON, those connected to them could suffer the same fate as the tree engulfed by the parasitic wild vine.

Which vine are you attached to?

“…by their fruits you will know them.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you;
depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Matthew 7:20-23

FROM CAPTIVE TO CONQUEROR - PART 4

PURPOSE FULFILLED

Thanks to Allison Sylvester-Conliffe for contributing this series of articles
http://i1361.photobucket.com

Gideon started off as a man full of fear, but God worked through that condition so as to fulfil His purpose for Gideon on the earth.  God built faith in Gideon, and with every step of faith, Gideon displayed increasing boldness.

By the time we get to Judges 7:16-18, we see a transformed Gideon boldly giving instructions to his army of 300 as he was ready to go up to conquer the host of the Midianite army…

Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies,
and he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers,
and torches inside the pitchers.
And he said to them, “Look at me and do likewise
watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do:
When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say,
‘The sword of the LORD and of Gideon!’”

photobucket.com
By Chapter 8 of the Book of Judges, Gideon was challenging the men of Succoth and of Penuel for not co-operating with him by giving his men food.  He eventually brought his own word to pass concerning them – he wiped them out on his return.

When Gideon came to the Jordan, he and the three hundred men who were with him crossed over, exhausted but still in pursuit. Then he said to the men of Succoth,
“Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me, for they are exhausted, and I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.”

And the leaders of Succoth said,
“Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?” So Gideon said, “For this cause, when the LORD has delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers!”

Then he went up from there to Penuel and spoke to them in the same way.
And the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.
So he also spoke to the men of Penuel, saying,
“When I come back in peace, I will tear down this tower!” – Judges 8:4-9

What a transformation! Gideon fulfilled his calling as a “great man of valour”!  God had seen him in this manner all along, even while he was yet a coward and afraid – while he was threshing wheat in the winepress, hiding from the Midianites.

In the same manner, we too, are seen by God, not in our present frail states, but God sees us as He created us - with His purpose for us in His mind.  Our job is to join with Him and to co-operate with Him, and so step into His Call that He would have ordained for each of our lives.

It begins with us answering the Call of Salvation and then taking up the responsibility to follow after God’s direction as He guides us by His Spirit and His Word, on this journey called life.

Have you answered His call yet?
